AKANIMO'S 5 YEAR MEMORIAL EVENTS - US AND NIGERIA -
In December 2024, we commemorated the 5 year Angelversary of our beloved Akanimo through a series of events curated to create awareness for childhood cancer, share the essence of who he was with the world, share memories of him while sharing our grief journey and the work we are doing to help children with cancer. Our purpose remains to affect our world positively by working to improve survivorship in children with cancer in Nigeria and the US. Everyday, we see that our advocacy work matters. We are thankful to everyone who has supported and continue to support this work. You help keep create Legacy for Akanimo and more importantly, save children from cancer.

Saturday, December 7, 2024 - US Memorial
On a cold December morning, friends, family, well wishers and supporters met at the meeting hall of the Cancer Survivor Park, Greenville, South Carolina to remember Akanimo. The love was palpable, the community came together to continue the advocacy for childhood cancer, validating the work we are doing.
Activities included rock painting, scavenger hunt, art coloring, song renditions, line dancing, violin and oboe renditions, poems and choreography. We also shared the memories of Akanimo, the essence of him reflecting in our mission and our commitment to continue to fight for a world where children with cancer gets the treatment they deserve, improving survivability. The highlight was gathering around the memorial tree and laying our rocks around it in memory of Akanimo.
Thank you to Cancer Survivor Park for your generosity and thank you to every supporter who joined us, in person and online. Together, we continue to work towards a world where no child dies of cancer.
Memorial Events in Nigeria
The second part of the memorial happened in Nigeria, in 3 cities. Lagos, Uyo and Ibadan on the 14th, 18th and 20th December, 2024.
The Lagos event was an art exhibition held at Nigeria foremost Art and Theatre center - TerraKulture Nigeria who generously curated some photographs Akanimo had taken while in treatment during a photography summer program organized by the Pablove Shutterbugs Foundation in 2018. Photos were sold to participants and all amount raised went into the support of our children with cancer presently undergoing treatment.
Thank you to very supporter who helped organize, who attended and who in one way or the other contributed to the success of the all the memorial events. Together, we continue to work towards a world where no child dies of cancer.
LAGOS PHOTO ART EXHIBITION - SATURDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2024
PHOTOS FROM UYO AND IBADAN 5 YEAR MEMORIAL EVENT, SOUTH-SOUTH AND SOUTH-WEST NIGERIA RESPECTIVELY.
The Uyo and Ibadan events were soccer matches organized in the community to raise awareness for childhood cancer and enlighten the community on symptoms and treatment options. At the Uyo event, the match kick-off was by Rt Hon. KufreAbasi Edidem, the Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly while the Ibadan event kick-off was by Prof (Mrs) Adesina, the Chairperson, Medical Advisory Committee of the University College Hospital , Ibadan. Both events had huge attendance and elevated our attempt to engage the community efforts through advocacy and awareness. We held raffle draws for mothers only who won beautifully-designed African wrapper-prints and the children received backpacks for school.
